Both the reading and the lecture are about how to control the invasion of Zebra mussel shellfish. The reading suggests that the inundation of zebra mussel in North America is uncontrollable and he points out tree reasons. On the other hand, the lecturer believes that there are many ways to stop this invasion. He opposes every claim made in the article.
First of all. the professor explains about a way in which the transportation of zebra mussel by ships. He says that by exchanging the ballast water by ocean water while it still out of the ocean, will kill the population of zebra mussel that on board. This clearly dispute the the first point made by the author of the article that it is impossible to stop the transportation of zwbra mussel by ballast water.
Second, the lecturer states that in the beginning zebra mussel did not have predators, but later on the aqua bird change it`s habitat and started preying on it. Aqua birds population can eat a huge amount of zebra mussel. Because of this zebra mussel shellfish population are less likely to dominate. This opposes the first information in the reading.
Finally, the lecturer push forth the idea that zebra mussel can promote the growth of some ocean animals. Even though zebra mussel can compete for food with fresh water population, it generate nutrients that can be a great food resource for bottom fish population. This also casts doubt on the last claim made in the lecture.
