The passage talks about the Little Ice Age and some possible reasons could cause this period. However, the professor mentions that these reasons are out of date and researchers do new investigations about The Little Ice Age.

To begin with, the passage states that disruption of Gulf Stream could cause the cooling of temperature. The professor refutes this idea. He says that Gulf stream's disruption could affect Europe and Northen America while, the little Ice Age happened in the southern area. As a result, it can not be a valid point.

Second, the passage declares that volcanic eruption could result in the happening of the Little Ice Age. The professor opposes this point. He says that although volcanic eruption can put enough dust in the atmosphere in order to the cooler climate, no other evidence including striking colourful sunset or grey and brown snow was recorded at that time. Consequently, the volcanic eruption was not strong enough to cause the Little Ice Age.

Finally, the passage makes a point about the decrease in population which could contribute to more trees and cooler climate. The professor rejects this reason. He says that the period of population decrease was not long enough to influence climate at that time. He adds that the population increased again after a short period resulted in cutting down the trees to feed the growing population. As a result, the number of trees in rain forest did not increase in order to decrease the effect of greenhouse gases which keeps climate warm.
