The passage states that the little Ice age was a period of cold temperature in many parts of the world and provides three possible causes of this occurrence. The lecturer, nevertheless, explains that there is no new information in the passage and all of them are out of date.
First, the reading claims that melting glaciers sent a large amount of cold freshwater into the Gulf stream that affects earth's climate and this disruption could have caused the little ice age. Conversely, the lecturer opposes this point by saying that disruption of ocean currents caused cooling in Europe and some parts. The professor contends that because this disruption of the ocean did not happen in other areas such as Newsland or south Africa, it not explain the little Ice age.
In addition, the article posits that volcanic eruption could have caused the little Ice age. On the other hand, the lecturer argues that the volcanic eruption might produce a visual effect that people could notice them at that time, as well as, dark clouds of dust and sulfur gas. According to the professor, having no report of these effects such as brown snow instead of white snow indicates that this reason is not strong enough to affect global temperature.
Finally, the passage expresses that considerable decreases in human population may have contributed to the cooling of the climate. Quite on the contrary, the lecturer emphasizes that there was not enough time for this to work. We also learn that by increasing the population so soon, the forest trees started to be cut down and thus this reason is not long enough to cause global cooling of the climate.
