The lecture and reading passage both about little ice age contributes the colder environment in certain area in 1350 to 1900 CE. The author of the passage provides three reasons behind cold temperature of certain parts of the world. The lecturer cast doubt on the claim made in the article. He says that author presented reasons are outdated and new information find the accurate reasons.
Firstly, the author implies that melted ice of Gulf Stream caused increase fresh water on the ocean. Changes of ocean current responsible for little ice age. This point is challenged by the lecturer. He mentions that ocean current of gulf stream affected only certain part of world such as Europe and North America, but not reveals any effect on New Zealand and Africa which parts suffer from the cold temperature So, gulf stream not affect the every cold temperature of parts in the world.
Secondly, the author emphasizes that dust from the volcanic eruption prevented sunlight to earth and then decrease the global temperature. The lecturer rebuts this argument. He explains that it is true that some amount of dust responsible for decrease the temperature. However, large amount of striking visual effect denied the fact of dust contributes to cold environment. Since pinkish sunset and snow grey instead of white or blue, dust is not address for cooler environment.
Lastly, the author states that decrease the human population caused less need of food that is reason growing forest instead of used land for agriculture. Forest absorbs green house gas which is increase the global warming. The lecture, in contrast, points out that human population is decrease but it recover rapidly, therefore increase requirement of food, finally land used for agriculture. Forest no longer effect on the global temperature.
