The professor explains three arguments opposing the points stated in the reading passage about authenticity of Peary's travel to the North pole and reach it.
First, the professor argues that committee, which set up by National Geographic Society, was dubious because it consists mostly by Peary's friends and investigations about this issue took only two days. Also, National Geographic Society was invested in Peary's travel. Therefore, committee's verdict about Peary's travel is not trustworthy and it is biased.
Second, the reading passage claimed that Peary could able to travel such long distance in only 37 days. They states that as another explorer named Tom Avery could pass similar path in less than 37, it wasn't impossible to Peary to cover this path in mentioned time period. However, the professor states that Avery's journey was different with Peary's in some ways. Avery didn't bring food and other stuffs with himself and left them back in airplane. Furthermore, when Peary traveled to the North Pole he encountered unfavorable weather condition which makes things harder to do. So, based on aforementioned idea, this claim has been repudiated by professor.
Third, the reading asserts that photographs taken by Peary prove that he was in North Pole because sun's position was measured in a position that it was should be. In contrast, the professor disproves the idea due to the fact that techniques which had been employed to measure the Sun's position was preciseness and we can not judge claims based on such evidences. Furthermore, the camera that Peary took pictures was primitive that negatives were faded more overtime, therefore, pictures were blurred, suggesting that Sun's precise position wouldn't be determine.
