TPO 28 integrated essay

In the lecture, the professor asserts why the arguments from the reading about Peary's claims that he reached the North Pole are not convincing. The article, the other hand, states that there are three arguments provide strong support for the truth of Peary's claim.

First, although the National Geographic Society declared that Peary's has reached the Pole, they were not objective. This is due to the fact that many of the committee members were friends with Peary and they financed him for his journey, which made them biased. Moreover, they conducted the investigation only for two days and they did not examine Peary's records closely. This opposes the reading, which states that the National Geographic Society put together a committee to conduct a complete investigation of Peary's records and equipment, which resulted in supporting Peary's claim that he had reached the North Pole.

Second, the professor cites that according to the speed issue, Peary's journey was different than Avery's because Avery did not carry his food with his, he had lighter ship. This mean's that his speed was higher. This prove that Peary could not reach the North pole in 37 days. This challenges the text, which claims that a recent expedition provides supports for Peary's claim that he reached the North Pole.

Finally, The lecturer declares that Peary's photographs prove nothing unless the shadows in them were examined precisely, which could not be done with Peary's photographs because the shadows in the pictures are fuzzy and blurred. This refutes the reading, which asserts that there are photos taken by Peary that support his claim that he had reached the North Pole.
