TPO 40 integrated writing

In the lecture, the professor asserts how establishing floating stations 50 kilometers above Venus could solve the problems in the article. On the other hand, the reading states that Venus has inhospitable conditions, which make a human presence there would be impossible.

First, the lecturer claims that it is well-known that the atmospheric pressure at higher altitudes is lower than the surface of the Earth. So, 50 kilometers above Venus the atmospheric pressure would be bearable for humans. This challenges the reading, which states that the atmospheric pressure at Venus is 90 times greater than the pressure at the Earth, and anything land on Venus would be crashed due to that high pressure.

Second, the professor mentions that Venus has many different compounds in its atmosphere like carbon dioxide, nitrogen, and sulfuric acid that could produce water and oxygen by chemical processes. The text, however, refutes this by stating that Venus has no water reservoirs and the idea of ensuring a regular supply of water and oxygen from the Earth would be impractical.

Finally, although there are clouds 50 kilometers above Venus, they are not thick. In fact, the floating stations could receive more sunlight because they would receive the reflected sunlight from the thick clouds underneath them and the direct sunlight. Thus, the energy could be generated effectively at these stations. This opposes the reading, which mentions that the lack of sunlight would prevent the use of solar power cells, so humans could not get any source of energy to power their machines.
