The article is discussing the issue that the explorer arrived the North Pole or not and provides three reasons; however, the professor in the lecture believes that the facts can not serve as evidences.
First of all, the article says that there were Peary’s records which contain the information about the North Pole. On the contrary, the professor argues that the the committee of National Geographic Society were not objective since they were Peary’s close friends and even contributed to the trip. Furthermore, they only checked the data in a few days which implied that they did not conduct a careful investigation. As the result, the records were not a persuasive evidence.
Second, the article suggests that the 37 traveling days were not incredibly short, since a British explorer made the same trek less than 37 days. Nevertheless, the professor points out that Tom used less than 37 days because of the helping of carrying foods by airplane which could reduce the weight. Moreover, the climate was more favorable when Tom traveled to North Pole.
Finally, the article provides that the angle of shadow in the the photo matched the positon of the Sun at that time. In contrast, the professor claims the angle of the shadow was not precise enough since the photos already faded and even became blurred. Thus, those shadow on the photos cannot be used to calculate the position of the Sun.
