TPO-29 integrated writing task

The reading and the lecture are both about the several arguments that support the migration of North Slope dinosaurs which survived the winter by migrating south to more hospitable regions. As opposed to, the lecturer who counters-argue that viewpoint, trying to prove that these three arguments do not seem convincing.

First and foremost, the writer mentions that the edmontosaur's diet supports the migration theory. He says that since the dinosaurs fed themselves with plants during the winter it would be hard for them to find any plant. Therefore, they had to move on places that have enough food. On the contrary, the professor cannot disagree more, reasoning that dinosaurs did not have to migrate because the climate was warmer than it is today during the summer they had twenty four hour sun. which helped plants to grow. Apart from that, in the winter a lot of dead plants can serve as nutrients.

The second argument that the author gives is that many edmontosaru skeletons have been found at the same site. So that suggest that they lived in herd. Animals that migrate usually live in herds. Consequently, that tells us that dinosaurs could migrate too. However, the lecturer cannot be more outraged, explaining that living in herds does not mean that they had to migrate. For example, Elk live in herds, but they do not migrate. In addition, animals live in herds for different reasons such as to protect themselves from predators.

Finally, on one hand, the passage points out that dinosaurs were physically capable of migrating long distance. Also, they could run very fast, so they could have easily used locomotive power to move. Nevertheless, the professor declares that it is true that adult dinosaurs can move faster, but what about young dinosaurs which cannot move as faster as adults. As a result, adults would not live behind their youngest. Therefore, they could not be able to migrate.
