The reading passage states three reasons that endorse the migration of Edmontosaurus which used to live in North Slope, whereas the lecture points out that the explanation are not convincing.
Firstly, the author insists that plants are the major source of food of Edmontosaurus, and plants could not grow during the North Slope winter, so they had to migrate to find food. The professor, however, argues that the dinosaurs did not need search for food since one hundred million years ago the temperature of North Slope winter was warmer than it is today. And the sunshine was long enough for plants to thrive, as a result, the dinosaurs could easily survive with such a ample nutrition.
Secondly, the reading says that fossil evidences suggest that edmontosaurs lived in herds, therefore, like many other animals who also live in herds they presumable would migrate. In contrast, the speaker reckons that creatures sometime lived in herds for other reasons such as, extra protection. In addition, there is a kind of plant eater live in Western America, and they also live in herds, nevertheless, they never migrate.
Lastly, the reading states that the physical structures of edmontosaurs allowed them to migrate through long distance. On the contrary, the lecture deems that although the adult edmontosaurs were capable of traveling long distance, the juveniles were too young to support such a long journey. In this way, the herds need to wait for these youngsters and not able to migrate.
