According to the reading passage a huge amount of dinosaur fossils have been discovered in Alaska's North Slope. These fossils is the good evidence for the existence of the dinosaur in the North Slope region of the Alaska. The strange issue is that how dinosaurs can survive during the harsh winters of the North Slop which is so dim and dark at that era. Reading passage provide three reasons which they claim that the North Slop dinosaurs should migrate during the winters towards southern regions. Professor opposes to the each of the passage reasons. The reasons are about the migration probability of one of the most common North Slope dinosaurs, Edmontosaurus.
First, the passage claims that the Edmontosaurus should migrate because of the food shortage durig the winters. Professor opposes to this reason. She explains that in one hubdred million years ago, the summers were too hot and in southern regions the plants could not grow as well as North Slope region. So the rich plant source of the North Slope during the summer can support the Edmontosaurus in horrible winters. The dead leafs of the plants could be a good material for dinosaurs in winter.
Second, Professor says the living in the herds does not mean that the Edmontosaurus migrated in winter season. Although passage described that moving in herds can help the animals such as buffalo and caribou to coordinate their migration but this does not mean all of the animals use it in this way. She also uses Roosevelt elt as a kind of animal which does not migrate albeit lives in the herds. Also, herds can help many animals to relive from their predators.
Finally, Although Edmontosaurus could walk in high speeds and it was capable of traveling long distances but according to the professor speech, the young Edmontosaurus could not do that and they should be stay in the herds.
