The professor explains three clear arguments opposing the points stated in the reading, supporting the idea that burning mirror was not real and it was just a myth.

First, the reading passage claims that Greek people did not able to manufacture such big copper device which aimed to focus sunlight in order to reflect it toward enemies' ships ad trigger to fire it. Conversely, the professor brings up the idea that Greek did not need to create a giant sheet of mirror, instead, they were enable to made it by putting smaller mirror sheets along side each other and make a big mirror. Also, their mathematicians were knowledgeable to calculate exact measures of burning mirror.

Second, the professor argues that experiment was not reliable because scientists employed ships which only made by wood and as we know, wood needs more time to burn, however, Romans' ships were not only manufactured by wood but also artisans used a sticky material called pitch which starts to burn quickly. Thus, burning mirror was an effective tool to destroy enemies ships and equipment.

Third and last, the reading passage asserts that Greeks could used flaming arrows which used by ancient armies in wars to set the ships on fire. In addition, as burning mirror and flaming arrows would have been effective at about the same distance, Greeks did not need to improve or invent a complement device with more advanced technology. Nevertheless, the professor disproves the idea due to the fact that enemies could see flaming arrows and they might use some strategies to resist flaming arrows. Furthermore, although Romans could have seen the burning mirror, they couldn't be able to see powerful light which ignite their ships. So, burning mirror had surprising consequences to Romans.
