The reading and lecture both discuss a fossil skeleton of a dinosaurs named sinosauropteryx. While reading claims that fossil have a pattern of line surrounding the bones and paleontologist are think that sinosauropteryx had feathers, but some critics opposed that idea and provide three reasons to support their opinion. However, the lecture say that the evidence are not convincing and refutes each of the authors reasons.
Firstly, the reading claims that fine line are not represent functional structures of living dinosaurs and it was formed after death. The reading also says that after death of animals skin were decomposed into fibers and that attached with the fossil as a line. However, the professor refutes this point by say that skin of animals was not decomposed that make any line into the fossil. Furthermore, the professor stats that other animals skeleton was not decomposed and not make such type of line.
In addition, the reading makes the argument that skeleton part that was found it was part of frills rather than feathers. The lecture refutes this claims by pointing out that chemical composition of frills was not match the skeleton rather match with feathers chemical composition.
Lastly, the reading passage argues that usually feather help animals to maintain body temperature and fly, but structure represents line was founds along the backbone and tail area. This structure are not help to fly and not effectively maintain body temperature. The lecture refutes this point by say that some animals are used feather to attract other member and this feather are used for display purpose.
