In the reading passage, the author claims that there are three viable hypothesizes regarding the source of quackers, which is a weird sound head by the sailors in Russian submarines. However, finding all the ideas implausible and questionable, the professor casts doubt on what is presented in the text and states in spite of the fact that the principal reason for emitting such this peculiar phenomenon is still a contentious issue, there are serious problems concerning the mentioned theories.
At first, the author argues that the quackers are in fact the orca whales sounds which are in counter ship ritual. Conversely, the lecturer contend the idea that this assumption is entirely unlikely. Having lived on the surface of ocean, orcas' sound could not have been detected by the Russian submarines moved deep in ocean. Moreover, if orcas had been the cause, the sonar would have been able to detect them, but they could not identify them nonetheless.
In addition, the reading passage holds the view that giant squid would have produced this bizarre sound. On the other hand, the professor dismisses this idea by clarifying the fact that indeed, the presence of this giant marine invertebrates was ratified in 1960 for two decades. The problem is the sound vanished suddenly, while the squids were still living in that region. Therefore, if the source of quckers was the squid, it would have been continued thereafter.
Finally, the author asserts that the sound is related to another submarine attributing to different country equipped with technology that had made it undetected. The professor, thought, disputes this point by subscribing the point that the origin of the sound not only moved around the Russian submarine but also altered its direction so rapidly. Furthermore, the engine of the submarine produces noticeable sound. Subsequently, this theory is unconvincing as well since the submarine that is capable to move with such fast pace with silent engine has not been invented yet.
