The reading and the listening both are about odd sounds, also called quackers, which are heard by the Russian sailor for almost two decades. The author provides three theories to justify the source of these weird sounds. The lecturer challenges the statement made by the writer. He is of opinion that none of these theories are convincing.
First of all, the article claims that sounds were caused by orca whales, because female orca uses the sounds to attract male orca whale during courtship period. However, the speaker casts the doubt by saying that orca whales usually live on the surface of the water, whiles noises were received under submarine, therefore it is not a pleasing theory.
Secondly, the lecturer contradicts the second statement by asserting that giant squids are not the true source either, because voices are noticed only for two decades and after that they completely disappeared. So, this point is not agreed with article statement that giant squids were the sources of strange noises, because giant squids continue to live in the ocean before and after the perception of sounds, there is no evidence of their extinction.
In the last, it is stated that sounds might be produced by other military crew from another country and might be difficult to detect by sonar. On the other side, the lecturer rejects this theory, because voices are moving constantly and it was not easy for crew to move fast with directions. Moreover, since now, there is not invention of any silent engine which they could use to go around. Hence, it is not assured theory.
