TPO 33

In this set of materials the reading passage discusses that Archaeologists suggested several theories about the purpose of making and meaning of the Carved stone balls. While the in the listening the professor cast doubts on what is presented in the text and believes that Non of the three theories described ion tyhe text is not convincing.

First of all, in the text it is clearly mentioned that the stone balls used in hunting or fighting. However, the professor claims that this stone balls have not a lot of cracks and they preserve in a very well sahpe and without any damage. Therefore these stone balls could not be used for hunting.

In addition, the professor disagrees with this idea that stone balls used as a tools for weghting and measuring system. She says that thses stone balls built from different stones For example, some from sand stones and some other from cord and etc. Thus, the balls with the same size have not similar weight. Consequentely, these stone balls could not be used for measuring.

Finally, in the text it is stated that the stone balls had been the social impact for people at this time. The professor subscribes that These balls could not had this purpose because of two reasons. The intricat patern of these balls are too simple and the second therse stone balls should be put into the graved of high rank people when they dide. Butr the Archaeologists cannot find any of these balls in the graves. Thus, these stone balls could not had a social importance for this people.
