The reading and lecture are about purpose of circular balls that date from before approximately four thousand years. In the article, the three possible explanation was proposed about the case. The lecturer is the opinion that these interpretations are faulty.
Firstly, the author states that grooves were found from the place where stones were found, and these two tools probably was attached to each other and utilized as weapons. However, its surface was well maintained and smooth, which contradicts the idea mentioned in the reading.
Secondly, in the passage, it is claimed that the stones were being used for measurement because its size is consistent and suitable for resembling standard unit. Nonetheless, the lecturer refutes this understanding by remarking that density of the material utilized for making the stones. Therefore, their weight was different although their size is similar to each other, which means that the stones are unsuitable for employed to weigh masses of other objects.
Finally, the author mentions the stone may was used for indicating hierarchy of aristocrats because they have intricate layout. The lecturer, however, posits that design of the stone is simple although they are carved in a mark. Moreover, the tools were being buried with their owners during the period from which the artifact dates. Actually, the stones were not found from any cemetery but other areas, which proves that it was not indicator of social rank of their possessor.
