TPO-34 - Integrated Writing Task A huge marine mammal known as Steller’s sea cow once lived in the waters around Bering Island off the coast of Siberia. It was described in 1741 by Georg W. Steller, a naturalist who was among the first Europeans to see

The reading and the lecture both discuss main reasons for extinction. The author of the reading believes that there are some theories that can illustrate the main cause of extinction and provides three reasons to support it. On the other hand, the lecturer opposes reasons in the reading by providing detailed information.

First, the author of the reading claims that the see cows might have dyed by a specific group of people. This point is challenged by the lecturer. The professor thinks that these cows are massive, so it does not makes sense that those group of people hunted that many of them. As a matter of fact, this group of Siberian people were not that many in population.

Second, the author mentions that cows lost their main source of their food, but the professor rebuts this argument. He states that this point is not true, because it should have an effect on other parts of marine, but it does not.

Finally, the reading says that European fur traders are the major cause of this issue. In the contrast, the professor refutes this reason by explaining that these European people came to that area after that time.
