The reading passage claims that Voynich manuscript is well known because it resembles manuscripts written in 15 and 16 centuries. But no one has been able to decode the book's content. Also, there are several theories about the origin of the book. However, the lecturer finds all the theories dubious and presents some evidence to refute them all.
First, the author contends that the book is written by Antony Ascham, physician and botanist, described scientific and magical subjects. In contrast, the lecturer brings up the idea that Antony was an ordinary scientist without any original ideas and opinions. For example, his works included the description of common plants without any complicated code or myth.
Furthermore, the author holds the view that Kelley has created a spurious manuscript to show magical power and then sell to the wealthy noble. Conversely, the professor underlines the fact that creator of the book took a lot of time to code the book and there is no reason for the Kelley to spend his time to produce a fake manuscript.
Finally, as set forth by the author Voynich may have created a fake book because he has the knowledge of what old book look like and created a fake one. On the contrary, the speaker dismisses this issue owing to the fact that inks used in the manuscript are dated back to 4 hundred years ago. So, by this illustration, there is no need to create a fake book and wait for an appealing offer.
