Actually, both the passage and the lecture discuss about the method called turtle excluder device that is used in order to decline turtle death in nets which trap shrimp. The passage brings three theories for revealing disadvantages of TED; nonetheless, the professor puts those reasons under question. According to the professor notion, none of these provided reasons are convincing.
First, as the passage mentioned considering the fact that the number of turtle that are caught are so a few that not only isn't this method efficient but it also is extremely costly. However, the lecturer doesn’t reinforce the idea by adding the fact that there are almost one thousand shrimpers; therefore, they caused several turtle to be killed; besides, she expressed the fact that the industry of shrimp depends on shrimp fisher.
Next, as the passage illustrate there is an alternative method which contribute turtle to be safe that happens when fishing time decrease. Although the lecturer claims that it is theoretically an appropriate idea, controlling the time is counted as a difficult task which need monitoring.
Finally, the passage criticizes the method by emphasizing the short size of TED's holes that inhibit large turtle to escape; nevertheless, the professor says that small ways can be refine to convert the device to a proper one that both fisher and turtle can take the advantages of that.
