tpo 4 Endotherms are animals such as modern birds and mammals that keep their body temperatures constant. For instance, humans are endotherms and maintain an internal temperature of 37°C, no matter whether the environment is warm or cold.
The reading and lecture are both about endotherms, The author of the reading believes that dinosaurs are part of endotherms species. However, the lecturer casts doubts about the claims made in the article, saying that the her arguments are inaccurate compared to facts.
First of all, the author of the reading points out that their remains are found in polar regions. The article notes that polar dinosaurs are only animal that can sustain above their environment. The point is challenged by the lecturer. she says that polar regions today are warmer than in the past and endotherms did not live there. Furthermore, she argues that if the polar region temperature rapidly become cold then animals would migrate to a warmer area or migrate to other places. Also, their fossils would suggests that they are not endotherms.
Secondly, the author contends that the leg position and movement denotes they are enodtherm. The article establishes that their genetic make up was build for running. The lecturer rebuts this argument. she suggests that their physical make up doesn't prove that it was made for running. she elaborates on this by mentioning that their body main purpose is to support more weight and to grow more larger. In addition, scientist has no idea that endotherms can run because they have large body and they cannot withstand greater weight.
Finally, the author states that dinosaurs have structure called haversian canals. The article shows that the canal house nerves and blood vessels that maintain the species to grow rapidly. The lecturer, on the other hand, posits that it is true that they have haversian canals but the purpose of it was different because it has growth rings which thickens their bones size and they stop growing in cooler period. she puts forth the idea that dinosaurs has rapid growth and slow growth and it specific characteristic for endotherm which is growing rapidly even if it is cool.
