Based on the given set of the reading material, the writer believes that Venus' extreme conditions prevents hostpitalization of this planet. That being said, the lecturer rejects this idea by providing descent reasons that support the possiblity of acquiring floating stations distant from Venus surface which are similar to balloons which can help humans to hospitalize the Venus planet.
As the first point raised in the passage, the atmospheric pressure of the surface of the Venus is so high that it could crush anything such as spacecrafts. However, the speaker repudiates this idea when he mentions the reduction of pressure at a distance of 50 Km from the Venus surface. He believes that in that distance, not only the pressure of atmosphere is not harmful, but also it is similar to the pressure on the surface of the earth.
Secondly, the author of the passage mentions the lack of water and other vital chemical substances on the surface of the Venus. On the contrary, the lecture negates this idea by pointing out the that other useless chemical substances such as carbon dioxide, nitrogen and sulufric acid can be converted into water through a chemical reaction that can be conducted on these floating stations. This fullfils the need of carrying the water supplies from the earth to the Venus surface.
As the last point the author mentions, humans cannot produce electricity on the surface of the Venus because of thick carbon dioxide clouds that prevent sunlight from penetrating through the surface of the Venus. The speaker aknowledges that making use of solar energy on the surface of the Venus may not be possible, but it is absolutely approachable on the floating stations built far away from the surface of the Venus. Furthermore, at a high distance from the Venus surface, the floating station can absorb both direct sunlight and the light which is reflected from the surface of the thick clouds beneath the station.
To put it in a nutshell, the author of the passage and the speaker hold two opposing views against each other about the possibility of maintaining a human presence on the Venus.
