The professor disagrees with all the solutions provided in the text for glass building and birds injery. He belives all the solutions are flawed and will not stop the bird from injeries.
First, the text bring the solution of one way glasses. however, the professor explains that one way glasses work as mirror outside and this would be a significant problem for birds as they do not underestand the mirror and they might fly toward them as they see the three and sky on them. Therefore, this solution won't work.
Also, about the second solution in the reading material, having colorful designs and line, he believes it does not reduce the harm to the bird. He states that by having lines in glass the birds will see the opening and when they see an opening they try to flt through it. This just works if the lines are very close and holes opening are very small which makes the glass and building very dark. So, this solution is not effective.
Lastly, text suggested having magnetic feild in the glass to guide birds away from glass. the lecturer refutes the idea by saying that earth magnetic is a guide for bird in their long distance flight. They do not use it for short distant fly. In fact, eyes and brightness are the main guidance of birds in short distance. Therfore, magnetic feild glasses can not reduce the birds injery as they see by their eyes and brightness in the glass.
