The passage and lecture both discuss three hypotheses around using glass as a building material that lead to injuring birds because they try to fly through them. The reading claims that there are some solution which really help to solve the problem. In contrast, the professor explains that the justifications of the reading are not convincing, and he refutes each of the authors reasons.
Firstly, the text indicates that if we replace regular windows with one-way glasses that are transparent in only one direction, we can prevent more injures. However, the professor refutes this and says that when we use this kind of glasses, it works just like a mirror and reflect the sky and trees. So, they will fly into them.
Secondly, the passage puts out that if we paint these glasses with colored lines or other designs, it much more easier for birds to distinguish between them and other things. On the other hand, the speaker mentions that birds see unpainted glasses as an open hole, so they will fly through them. But, to prevent this problem unpainted spaces should be extremely small which really effect on the lightness of the room.
Thirdly, the reading points that using artificial magnet held undoubtedly prevent birds from approaching buildings. In contrast, the lecturer denies this and talks that they use earth magnet field when they want to migrate to far places. However, when they want to go from one part of the city to another part, they use their eyes or brightness of light to determine their direction. So, it does not much work.
In conclusion, based on reasons and analysis given by the professor, using one-way glasses, painting regular windows and creating artificial magnet held are not likely to solve the problem.
