Glass is a favored building material for modern architecture, yet it is also very dangerous for wild birds. Because they often cannot distinguish between glass and open air, millions of birds are harmed every year when they try to fly through glass windows There are, however, several solutions that responsible businesses can use to prevent injuries to birds.
The reading and lecture are both about glass create trouble when birds fly. The author of the reading feels that birds often cannot distinguish between the glass and open-air. The lecturer challenged the claim made by the author. He is on the opinion that none of the solutions is effective to solve the problem.
First of all, the author argues that one-way glass can possibly solve the problem because birds see the glass in their way and will change the direction. He also states that though the glass is work as one-way people cloud see through a window. The specific argument is challenged by the lecturer. He claims that one-way glass may work as a mirror. When light reflects on the mirror the glass reflects back the sky image. As a result, birds think the glass as a sky and fly through.
Second, the writer suggests that painting the glass with the colour can solve the problem. He also mentions that the design like thin strips birds can watch and avoid the path. The lecturer rebuts this by mentioning that the design as per reading birds see it as a hole when flies. Moreover, rooms inside the building have provided no light.
Third, the author posits that birds can interpret the sense of artificial magnetic field by which they determine the direction. He also claims if the building is made with the powerful electromagnet it spread the signals and birds can understand the barrier. In contrast, the lecturer position is that birds use the magnetic field to travel a long distance when they migrate cold area to a warm area. He also noted that this mechanism is not worked for a short distance in the city because for a short distance they use to see the vision and bright colour to travel.
