The reading is about origin of silver coin discovered in historical site in the United State. Its states provided three theories about the coin was fake and not brought by Norse to America. Conversely, in the lecture, the professor holds a totally different view that there are logical evidences that mean coin originally brought by European, and points to inaccuracies in each of the author's reasons.
First of all, the article claims that distance between Native American site and location of coin is too long. The professor refutes this point by saying many other objects also founded there. According to her, Native Americans traveled a lot and they could reach there. As a result location of coin seems to be rational.
Furthermore, the reading posits that no other coins have been founded at the Canadian site. However, the professor says it doesn’t mean Norse did not bring any other coins. She also states that may be they brought coins and then return them back to Europe.
Eventually, the article asserts that coins would seem to be useless for Native Americans. The professor on the other hand explains that also they might not recognize it as a money like today, they valued unusual things. The coins still were beautiful and could be used as necklace. Therefore, the Norse can utilize the coin trade with the Native Americans.
