TPO-46 - Integrated Writing Task In the United States, medical information about patients traditionally has been recorded and stored on paper forms. However, there are efforts to persuade doctors to adopt electronic medical record systems in which informa
Both the reading passage and the listening lecture give some information about the usage of electronic record systems in medicine. What is written in the text is either refuted or challenged by the lecturer.
First of all, the reading claims that electronic saves can reduce the money spend on patient records, and these records should be in an electronic system which doctor can easily reach, yet the professor refutes this point by saying that the electronic records are uncertain. keeping records on papers helps people to get access to easily when an urgent situation occurs. Furthermore, medical still have to pay more to electronic more than keeping records on papers.
Secondly, the author posits records, stored electronically, decreases human errors. However, this argument rebutted by the lecturer. She elaborates on this by mentioning these errors can not be eliminated. doctors write things about patients on the paper in the first place. After that, they enter this to the electrical platform. During this stage, the poor handwriting errors can not be avoided.
Finally, the article puts forward electronic medical records can have a large amount of information about patients. they can be reachable whenever needed, but the professor opposes this point by explaining that all this information creates privacy loss. Many patients wish to have a permission to keep their records. Therefore, there is a procedure to get permission from patient who may wants to block to use his own personal data.
