Both the passage and the lecture discuss the possibility of Pterosaurs' power flight. The author belives that hypothesises about Pterosaurs' power flight to be wrong. Later on he provides three reasons to support his idea. On the other hand, the lecturer thinks that Pterosaurs were infact capable of flying. He continous on his explanation by refuting all of the reasons provided by the author one by one. Following I will describe each of his explanations.
Firstly, the passage states that Pterosaurs were probably cold blooded, and since all cold blooded animals has low metabolism and consequently low level of energy, they would be unable to generate enough energy to power their flight. The professor opposes this claim by talking about evidences found from Pterosaurs that shows are were in fact warm blooded. He elaborates that in fossils found from Pterosaurs it is discovered that they had hair or fur, which is feature in warm blooded animals, that keeps them warm in cold weather. Considering this, Pterosaurs, like other warm blooded animals, will have a metabolism that would allow them to have enough energy for power flight. By this reasoning the first argument is refutted.
Sencondly, the author believes that Pterosaurs were too heavy to be able to kept airborn by power flight. The lecturer contradicts this argument by mentioning that the fossils discovered from Pterosaurs show that they were expectionally light for their size, and it seems they had hollow bones. Regarding this, their weight was low enough to allow them to stay airborn by flipping their wings. This clearly contradicts the second reason.
Thirdly, the passage reasons that Pterosaurs leg muscles were not strong enough to support their jump to the air. However, the professor explains that Pterosaurs are different from birds. Further on, he illustrates that unlike birds Pterosaurs used four limbs to move around, to study on the fossils reveals that by use of these four limbs Pterosaurs were able to run fast enough or jump. This facts rebutes the third reason.
