TPO 47 Integrated Writing Task

The reading passage and the lecture both explore the issue about whether a pterosaur could fly by flapping the wings. Even though the writer provides seemingly solid reasons to support the idea that the animal could only glide, the lecturer casts doubts on it. Her position is that a pterosaur might be able to do a powered flight.
As a start, the author asserts that the animal could only glide because it is cold-blooded and its body provides insufficient energy. Nevertheless, the speaker indicates the fact that pterosaur might be warm-blooded. She further explains that the author overlooks the finding that the animal is deemed to have fur-like covering and dense hairs, which is the evidence that it needs them to preserve body temperature.
Therefore, the animal may have enough energy to fly.
Secondly, the writer insists that pterosaur is too heavy to fly by flapping wings. Conversely, the lecturer challenges the statement by showing the fact that the animal's bones are hollow and light. That is, despite the large body, the animal can still fly because its weight is low enough. As a result, the weight is not an obstacle for pterosaurs.
The speaker perfectly points out the mistakes in the reading passage about the animal could not launch with the tiny legs. She further states that the animal does not fly like a bird does. It uses its four limbs to walk and jump. Thus, a pterosaur has no trouble to fly with its large body because of the four-limbs-launching way.
