The reading and the lecture are about causes that is making the frog species declining and possible solutions to this problem. The author of the reading states some causes and methods to resolve of declining frog populations. The lecturer challenges the causes and possible solutions made by the author.
First, the author argues that the farms have been used pesticides to prevent the insects can damage their crops. thus, the pesticides have been harmed the frogs. The article mentions that laws can prohibited harmful pesticides to be used in farms in order to protect the frogs. this specific argument is challenged by the lecturer. The professor claims that this is not a economical pratical solution. First, the reason why is that farms have been lived near to an environment with frog population is going to suffer by this laws. because, these farms are going to spend more money with pesticides that are not harmful to frogs. thus, these farms are not going to be competitive and others farms that do not need to obey the law with low costs will have better prices than the others.
Secondly, the article suggests that fungus are one of causes of redution of the frogs population. Also, it is argumented that the solution for this problem is to apply medication in order to protect frogs from possible infections by fungus. However, the lecturer affirms that this solution is not going to protect frogs. because, this treatment needs to be applied in each frog and reapplied in each spring. thus, this is the reason that the professor believes that this solution is not going to prevent the frog population decline.
Finally, the author argues that frogs' environment are threatened by human activities. In addition, in the article water habits need to be protected from excessive water use. In contrast, the professor states that is not the use of the water is threatening frogs instead it is global warming. global warming is the real cause of the redution of frog population and other a lot of species. thus, to protect the water is not going change significantly the problem.
