Both the article and the professor discuss the survival of frog species. The article proposed three methods to solve the problem of declining frog populations. However, the professor states that those methods is unconvincing and refutes the article.
First, the article suggests to prohibit farmer from using harmful pesticide, since those harmful pesticide would attack frog’s body and cause severe problems. However, the professor think this way is not fair or practical. Noting that many farmers rely on the pesticide to decrease loss and maintain the yield, stricter regulation of pesticide usage would cause the farmer to lose crop and decrease their production. Thus, this method is impractical.
In addition, because the fungus would thicken the frog’s skin and further cause dehydration, the reading propose claims that applying fungus treatment on a large scale would be beneficial. Nevertheless, the professor points out that we need to apply the treatment on each individual, plus the fact that the treatment would not prevent the fungus from passing to the offspring, thus this proposal seems too complicated and expensive.
Finally, the article states that if the critical habitats such as lake and marsh could be protected from human development, many frog species would recover. The professor is against this idea. She points out that the actually the global warming is the real threat of the frog, and would cause the entire declination of the population. Thus those protection of specific habitats would be unrealistic.
