Due to the condition that many frog species have declined or even gone die, the reading offers three possible methods to solve this problem. But the speaking argues that all these methods have, in fact, problems.
To begin with, the passage asserts that prohibiting farmers from using pesticides which cause frogs getting sever breathing problems can significantly solve the problem. Unlikely, the professor disagrees with this idea. She then appoints that this is not fair for farmers who live near frogs. Without pesticides, it is almost impossible for these farmers to compete with others who do not live with frogs and are allowed to use pesticides, because these farmers have low yields. So this cannot be used as an effective method.
Then, according to the passage, a kind of fungus it a major factor and if we apply some treatments to kill these fungus, we would protect frogs. This method is also argued by the professor. She then tells us that if we apply treatments, we have to treat each frogs indivually and we have to treat them again and again when they born new frogs. So it is impossible because it is too complex and expensive.
Moreover, it is true that the speaking acknowledges what the reading says that their habitats are threatened by human activities, however, the excessive water use and development are not the most important threaten. In fact, global warming is the key factor. Thus protection frogs’ habitats from the excessive water use and development is unlikely to change the dangerous situation now.
