The auther of the passage is so facinated by elephents and counts three supposedly bliefs about them based on the elephents' behaviors. On the contrary, the lecturer casts doubt on those bliefs by explaining the real reasons behind those behaviors and refute all of the passage's bleifs about elephents.
First, the passage brings up the behavior of old elephents in which they get away from their herd when they get old and go alone to vicinities of water -what is called "elephent graveyards"- to die alone. Consequently the auther counts this behavior as a sign for elephents to be aware of their time of death. Conversely, the lecturer underlines the fact that this behavior is a result of decay in elephents teeths and the chewing difficulty for old elephents. Therefore, the old elephents must find softer forms of vegetation which is abundant near the water. So the real reason for old elephents to get away from their herds is to find an appropriate source of food for themselves.
Second, the passage mentions the ability in elephents to paint as an artistic instinct in them. In contrast, the lecturer claims that the elephents have no sens of what they are drawing and the drawing skill is tought to them by manipulating elephents' sensitive ears. Elephents get trained to assign a particular move of paint-brush simultaneusly when a specific part of their ear is touched.
Finally, the passage proposes that the elephents are afraid of mice. In the other hand, the lecturer refutes this idea by mentioning that elephents' fear of mice is due to the fact that they are unfamiliar with mice. She further brings up the example of elephents in Zoos that are not afraid of mice because they have got familiar with them and understood there is no harm from mice.
