TPO-52. Integrated Writing Task. Summarize the points made in the lecture, being sure to explain how they challenge the specific points made in the reading passage.
Based on the set of material, the article proposes three main advantages to support that colonization of asteroids. On the other hand, the lecturer in the listening casts doubt the information which is presented in the passage.
First of all, the writer asserts that it is safer to land on an asteroids due to the low gravity than other planet, and carry more equipment in the spaceship. However, the speaker in the lecture claims that there is downside for this point in the reading passage. Low gravity will cause severe health problem to human being such as losing muscle density and bone density in a few months. Thus, first point in the reading does not hold the water.
In addition, the author demonstrates that asteroids contain valuable metals which are rare in Earth. Yet again, the professor refutes this opinion and posits that considering cost of transportation and market price of the rare elements, the profit of asteroids will be set off. If the supply of one rare metal increases drastically, the price of this metal will drop then the profit of colony cannot be as much as discussed in the passage.
Despite the statement in the reading passage that some asteroids are closer than Moon which it is much easier to land on and return from Earth, the professor reputes that it will hard to return to Earth from asteroids. For sometimes the asteroids are at the close point to Earth, but it will not stay here. Asteroids travels further away than Mars, then it is a challenge for astronauts coming back to Earth. Therefore, the last point of article is untenable from professor's explanation.
