TPO 54 TASK 1

The reading asserts that due to fast evaporation in the Salton Sea in California, it is gradually becoming more salty. The author of the passage provides three theories for reversing this phenomenon, while the lecturer disputes the claims made in the excerpt. She believes that the solutions of the reading are not realistic and practical.
First, according to the reading, the high salt levels can be decreased by a direct unique facilities. This fact is challenged by the lecturer. Although, the lecturer accepts that, this process might reduce salinity, she claims that this leads to elevate further harmful and poison materials, such as Selenium.
Secondly, the author suggests that ocean water has less salinity than the lake's water. It is said that the ocean water can be transferred through canals into the lake to decrease the salt levels of the lake. The lecturer, however, asserts that the distance of the ocean from the lake is far-reaching and the government should pay more money and it is not affordable.
Finally, the author posits that by building partitions in the lake, the lake's salinity can be controlled. In contrast, the lecturer's stance is the lake is located on a high risk site, it is prone to certain natural accidents like earthquakes. She notes that this situation might destroy the walls, especially the small wall and water from high salty parts will go to low salty main parts.
