TPO 55 INT

The passage and the professor are discussing the reason why a unique whale produces 52-hertz waves.

The reading states that the whale might be a hybrid and its unique vocal feature stems from the combination of its parents’ features, which their species are known. it is common for offspring to combine the characteristics of their parents. The professor, however, casts doubt on this argument by providing information on other hybrid whales. he states that this whale has a unique migration route in contrast to other whale migrations’ patterns. hybrids in nature follow their parents’ migration path and have the same path as one of their parents has. But this whale has an unusual migration pattern.

The reading argues that the unique sound vibration of this whale might be the result of hearing damage . As humans without hearing ability may produce sounds that differ from what other humans produce, this can be the case for this whale too. The professor finds this argument irrational since vocal vibration stems from animals’ throats and has nothing to do with their hearing ability. he put forth the idea that it is the physical characteristics of the animals’ vocal apparatus which define the features of the generated sound. Therefore a whale with a hearing problem can not produce a completely different sound, and this whale must have a very unusual throat structure.

The reading also argues that this uniqueness may indicate that this whale is the last survivor of its species, and other whales of this species are now gone. The professor refutes this idea. he states that since scientists have been monitoring this vibration for many decades and they have not found any other evidence of similar sounds, there were no other whales like this one.
