Both the reading and the lecture discusses the possible reasons for why the wood companies in Americas would not seek the ecofriendly certification for their products as the other companies around the world do. The reading discusses three possible reasons that the professor in the lecture refutes every single one of them.
First, the reading says that the American consumers are already exposed to a lot of commercials. That will not make them appreciate the ones that promotes the ecofriendly products or even pay attention to it. The lecturer opposes this by saying that American consumers do appreciate and seek the ecologically certified products, because they do not treat all commercials the same. The lecturer also says that the American consumers are able to distinguish between the claims that been promoted by companies for their own products from those that are promoted by an independent certified agencies. Also, they will act very favorably towards the certified and international reputation for worthiness.
Secondly, the reading presents the argument that the ecocertified wood will be unaffordable for the American consumers, due to their high prices. As a result, these wood companies would prefer to keep their product prices low and affordable rather that getting an ecocertification. The lecturer counters this. He said that the price alone will be an issue if the wood companies product’s price will be higher or lower than the other products. However, if the price diference is less than five percent, the American costumers do choose the factore over the price to protect and preserve the environment.
Lastly, the reading discusses that the ecocertification will make sense for the aAmerican wood companies only if they market it abroad. A claime that has been contradicted by the lecture. As the lecturer says that if the wood companies will not compete for the costumers inside the United satates, the intenational companies will do so and capture them.
