Both the reading and listening parts offer two opposite views about the benefits of buying a franchise for starting a novel business. Whereas the passage lists three advantages of purchasing the franchise; the professor, on the other hand, refutes these advantages. Indeed, she refers to a recently conducted research to call those advantage into the questions.
First of all, the article mentioned the reliable supply of goods and services as the first positive aspect of franchising; in contrast, the instructor casts doubt on the accuracy of this aspect. As she describes, according to the previously mentioned study, the owner of the company forces the branches to buy a specific brand of goods and services which are expensive. In fact, there are identical types of goods and services in the market which cost fewer than those accomplished ones. Therefore, the recommended goods or services are not reliable and cheaper for franchised companies.
Secondly, meanwhile, the text stated that franchise saves money on advertising and consider it as another benefit of franchising; the lecturer, on the contrary, disapproves this benefit too. According to her assertation, each franchised company should pay six percent of its annual total sum in sell to the company owner. This payment is done for the sake of advertising; however, these ads are not for that specific company; is for brands and many companies of those brands in many places. Besides, as a company only spends half of the above-mentioned cost to its own business, can make more profit. Thus, the franchised company does not save money on advertising.
Finally, although the passage asserted that the franchising is a secure way of starting a business; the professor rejects this advantage too. Based on her discerption, while the franchising is less risky, it is not secure. As she discusses, the most secure method of starting a novel business is buying an existed company from its previous company. This type of business possesses two times more chance of success in the comparison of buying the franchised branches. Consequently, buying a franchised company does not warranty success.
