There has been some debate among what produce the quacker sound. The reading provides three theories about what might have cause that odd sound. However lecture disagrees. It claims that the three theories have some problems
The first point of dispute is if the sound is a call of male and female Orca whales during courtship ritual. The lecture contends that the Orca whales are living near the surface and the submarine are down in the ocean. If the sound are from Orca whales, the sonar will able to detected. On the other hand the reading says that Orca whales know to inhabit the area where the submarine were picking up the odd sound.
Another controversial issue is if the sound is caused by giant squid. The lecture says that the squid appeared in the ocean in the 1960 and then disappeared by 1980. the fact the sound is from a squid make no sense. However the reading oppose this point saying that the sound is emitted from the squids as they live deep in the ocean. They are difficult to detected by sonar by they have soft bodies with no skeletons
The final point of dispute is if the sound are coming from another country's submarine patrolling the area. The lecture claims that any other submarine will not be able to move that fast and change direction quickly, Any submarine will have engine produce sound. But, the reading refutes stating that the other submarine are not detected because they using a kind of technology make them undetectable by the sonar.
