The passage state that there are humans interests to elephants brought about many beliefs about theirs behaviors. Conversely the professor believes that these beliefs are caused by misunderstanding of elephants behaviors. She offers three counter-arguments to demonstrayte weaknesses of each presumprion about this misunderstanding.
The first paragraph asserts that elephants are aware of their death and explains that is why they break up their herd when they get old and find a place to die. In contrast, the professor thinks that this behavior is not due to their awareness of death. The lecturer thinks that the reason behind this behavior is that their teeth is not as sharp as before. Therefore, they look for softer plants which is found near water and that is the place which elephants go and die and is dubbed "elephants graveyard. This directly contradicts the first assumption made in the text.
More over, the second part of the texts mentions that, elephants have artistic feeling and are able to draw. The professor rejects this justification by suggesting that elephants are trained to do this kind of activities. She clarifies that their ears are very sensitive, and the trainers control them how to move the brush by touching their ears.
The final portion of the text talks about the beliefs that elephants fear of mics. It concludes this from a Roman philosopher and a recent research. Once again the professor rejects this theory. She emphasizes that this is result of another misinterpretation in the elephants behaviors. She explains that the real reason of the fact that elephants stay away from mice is that the mics look are unfamiliar to them. On the other hand in places that elephants see mics and understated that they are harmless they do not show this behavior.
