The idea of both the passage and lecture is about reducing the number of people who read the literature book. The author of the reading claims that this decline has a bad effect on culture and society. The lecture, on the other hand, professor refutes this opinion and denies all the reasons mentioned in the passage.
First of all, the passage tells that level of reading has declined especially the books that fields are literature. It is terrible because these kinds of books help people to improve their imagination, understanding of language, and contact with others. In the lecture, the professor refuses it and says not only literature books but also some other field's books help people that improve their knowledge and broaden their horizon. He mentions science books, history, etc that have the same effects as literature books.
secondly, the passage claims that when people don't read books like literature or other, they tend to watch TV, listen to music, or read web page-they are self help-book and have poor value. The professor, on the other hand, tells that culture has changed, and watching TV or listening to music not only doesn't waste time but also helps people to know with brilliant music and valuable movies.
Lastly, reading mentions that not only not to read books people but also writers don't write books because they don't have enough audience to say them and they miss their interest in writing books. This fact reduces the number of publishers that support talented writers. In the lecture, the professor refuses it, and says declining of the publishing isn't to reduce the number but also some new writers write poor content that they don't have merit to publish them.
