TPO22 Integrated TOEFL essay

Both the reading and lecture discuss using ethanol fuel as an alternative source to gasoline in the United States. While the reading says that ethanol is not a good replacement and provides three reasons, The lecturer disagrees. He says that non of these reasons are convincing.

First, the reading claims that using Ethanol will not solve the global warming problem. Ethanol like gasoline, release carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. In contrast, the lecturer insists that ethanol is made from corn plants. During corn plants' growth, they will absorb carbon dioxide from the atmosphere as a nutrient. As a result, ethanol will offer an advantage over gasoline.

Next, the reading asserts that ethanol produced from plants would reduce the number of plants. The corn that uses to produce ethanol is an important source for many animals like cows and chickens. On the other hand, the lecturer argues that non of the food sources will affect, because ethanol production from cellulose, the part of corn plants not eaten by animals. As a result, the source of plants will not be affected.

Finally, the reading states that ethanol will never compete on price with gasoline since both have the same price for consumers. However, the lecturer points out that if people start buying ethanol, its production of it will increase. Moreover, the price will decrease because it will be available easily.
