In this set of materials, the reading passage states that the bone in fossil of a discovered dinosaur confirmed this idea that it had blood vessels, red blood cells, and collagen matrix. However, the lecturer finds all the idea skeptical and provides some evidence to refute them all.
First of all, the author of the passage claims that some small branching channel inside the bone can be due to the blood vessels and a soft, flexible organic inside channels proves the idea. In contrast, the lecturer argues that it is not necessarily because of blood vessels and explains that some bacteria colonize hollow in bone after the death of animals. They remain traces of residues of their colony which are soft and flexible. So, the channels can be the result of bacterial activities.
Furthermore, it is mentioned in the reading passage that some existing spheres in bones contained iron which is necessary for transporting oxygen to tissues. On the contrary, the lecturer contends that the source of iron is not red blood cells because primitive animals does not have red blood cell. He illustrates that reddish minerals such as iron are in the soil where the fossil discovered. Hence, iron in the sample is from dirt and environment.
Finally, the reading passage asserts that the bone contained collagen, a main component of living bone tissue. Conversely, the lecturer believes that normally collagen cannot last longer than 100000 years and it is very unlikely that scientists can find it in a 70 million year fossil. In fact, its origin is the skin of researchers who were handling the bone.
