The reading and listening matedials have a conflictf opinion of whether it is practical or possible for Greeks to built the burning mirror to cause those ships to catch fire.
Firstly, the author suggests that building such a burning mirror is impossible technologically for Greeks at that time. However, the speaker stand on the point that they do not have to bulit that huge and complicated mirrors with copper, since the experiment have indicated that quanties of smal pices of cooper mirrors can be effective equally. And in that case, technology reason represent will no longer be a convicing support.
Secondly, the passage hold the opinion based on the fact that it will take 10 minutes to make those ships on fire with such mirrors, which is too long. But as the speaker stated that, this conclusion based on the assumption that the ships are consis of wood only, which is usually not the case. In fact, those ships often involve a water-proof layer. And those waterproof materials are much easier to make on fire, only seconds with those burning mirror. So, it is practical to use burning mirror to set ships on fire.
Thirdly, the writer think that with flaming arrows, it is not necesary to built burning mirrors to set ships on fire, cause the former can be effective at the same distance. On the contrary, at the view of the lecturer, the burning mirror attacting will the enemies surprisingly while the flaming arraows will give the enemies enough time to be prepared.
