Both the reading and the lecturer talk about possible reasons about the noises detected called "quakers"by submarines' sonar. The reading insists on three main theories about these kinds of sounds. However, the lecturer refutes them all and points out three opposing statements about them, catagorically.
Firstly, the reading states thatthses calls are the noise of Ocra male and female mating for calling attention of eachother during their ritual. On the other hand, the lecturer agrees upon the fact that these bizzar sounds can not be their sounds since most of Ocra population lived near the surafce of the ocean water, while the submarine patrolling existed in deep water of north atlantic and arctic ocean.
Secondly, the authors explains that the strange sound might belong to a group of smart skelotenless squid who searched the submarines because of curiosity. Conversely, the lecturer opposes this idea, mentioning that timeline about the appearance and disappearance of this huge animals and the starnge calls. She cites that the Russian submarines first heard thiises noises in 1960 and by the end of 1980, these sounds disapeared. However, the population of this eneormous squids remained stable and they neither started to show in 1960 nor started to extinct after two decades.
Finally, the reading materials points out that these sounds could have belonged to the military of other countries which are designed to be unknown by sonar. However, the lecturer casts doubt on this fact and states that there was no such equipments that could redirect immediately and move around. Moreover, if the were military technology, they should have been more quiet to not attract any attention. Also, since now, no such silent engines and equipments have been invented.
