The article claims that these carved stones must have been used for several purpose which have described in following theories . In the lecture, the professor challenges the claim made by article with further explanation. In fact, she thinks that this theories are very inconveniencing.
To began with, the article avers that This carved stone balls were used as weapons for hunting or fighting purpose. Whereas, In the lecture, this specific explanation is refuted by the professor. She detailed about weapons where there should be containing arrow head if they have been used for hunting purpose. Beside, this artifacts dose not show any wear sign or cracks. They are precisely preserved without any tear or pieces.
Secondly, the article suggests the theory about usages of carved stone ball as part of a primitive system of weights and measures. In the lecture, the professor, however, rebuts this point by mentioning usage of different type of stones. Various type of stones have different level of density where one will be heavier than other. For instance, handful of rock will be heavier that handful feather. So, this explanation about primitive weight system could be wrong.
Finally, the article posit that this carved stone ball could be the symbol of social status. In the lecture, the professor’s position is facts about artifacts as social markers are inconsistent. First of all, they are very simple to look like social status symbol. Furthermore, if they have been used as status symbol than it should be buried with dead person’s possession. Here, none of them engaged with it so it is hard to believe as social status symbol.
