Both the author and lecturer offer two opposing views on the main reason which led the Mary Rose to sink. While the reading part lists three reasons as the possible causes of this incident, the professor counters these specific points and presents some clues to call into the question for the information in the reading passage.
First of all, the article posits that the half closed gunport led the seawater inside and caused this accident. However, the instructor casts doubt on the accuracy of this assumption. The professor states that this surmise could be valid if the gunport were fired. However, based on the study done on this warship, whole guns are loaded, and they were not fired before the ship sank. As a result, this claim cannot be responsible for this accident.
Next, the passage mentions to the weak relationship between the sailors and the captain of the ship, which the sailors disobeyed the captain's order in an emergency situation. On the contrast, the lecturer challenges the validity of this claim. The professor asserts that the English navy army was picked among the most professional and capable sailors since the Mary Rose had a crucial position in the England army. In this case, the feasibility of disobedience of the sailors is so rare, because they were the best in their fields.
Finally, meanwhile, the text based on the French officer's claim, assumes that the drowning happened for the sake of the immense damage caused by the French ships; the instructor, on the other hand, refutes this claim. Based on the professor's logic, the French officer claimed in this way to demonstrate its priority toward the English army. In fact, the declaration of wear caused by the French army just possesses the political aspect, which the French army is stronger and invulnerable.
