the main idea of both the passage and the lecture is about how can we prevent injuries happen to birds by flying through glass windows, the passage suggests some solutions for this problem while the professor in the lecture is totally disagreeing with the solutions.
both of the resources first discuss about one-way glasses which are transport in one direction, the passage claims that it makes bird to understand there is a mass and wont try to pass through it, while the lecturer contends that one way glasses reflect everything so birds in outside would see them as mirrors and we all know they don't have any perception of how mirror works so they would think the reflected objects like sky are real and they would want to fly through it.
secondly, the reading support the idea of painting lines or other designs on window glasses so birds would detect them and they won't see glasses like an empty space so they would avoid of flying through them and people would be able to see outside through holes created between lines, but as lecture said, the glasses are included big opening so birds would perceive them as holes and want to fly to them unless the holes are extremely small so they cant fly to them but it would make inside space to dark.
finally, the reading suggests that creation of an artificial magnetic field would help birds fly away from buildings but the lecture opposed against this and claims that birds use magnetic fields only for navigation in long-distance journies not for short distances like transportation in the cities, they use their eyes in these cases.
all in all, as the speaker claims none of these solutions won't have much effect.
