The lecture and the reading both discsses the great houses of the Chaco Caneyon. while the reading passage presented three theories that support its argument about these great houses being used as residential unites dwelled by hundreds of families. The lecture has refutes every single theory presented.
first of all, the reading states that one theory that proof these great houses were purley residential s that, the Chaco houses were large in size like the modern apartment buildings nowadays. And it can hold hundreds of people in it. The professor in the lecture opposed this, by saying that, although it looks large from the outside and similar to the latest American buildings, however, few fire places were found. The professor also mentions that there were few rooms been founf inside the houses and questioned how could few rooms and few burners inside will proof that hundred of people were live their and met their daily needs?
Second, the reading says that the second theory that support its argument is that the Chaco houses were used to store food. The lecture counter this argument by stating that it was not supported by evidence.
the professsor explains that although it sound plausable, excavations could not uncover mny traces of the maise or other containersthat contain the stored maise in there.
Lastly, the reading says that athird theory is that these house were used as ceremonial centers. the reading supported its claim by the excavation findings of lots of large pots in there. The lecture refutes this theory and considers it not well supported. The lectrure explaines that there were other building materials been found inside like sand, stones and construction trash that might been left by the costruction workeres, and this makes it not a great evidence that the large quantity of pots were used in ceremonial occasions.
