TPO50 -Integrated task
Both the reading and the lecture discuss possible ways to travel to the Mars. The reading claims that it is impossible to go Mars even if the human were able to go Moon. These to destinations were different. However, the professor finds all the ideas dubious and presents some evidence to refute them all.
First off, the reading states that since it is a long distance travel to go Mars, there is the problem of enough supplies for astronauts to be survived. On the contrary, the lecturer dismisses the issue due to fact that there are kinds of plants that can grow in water instead of soil. Thus, astronauts can plant them during their trip as a source of food. In addition, she mentions that these plants utilize carbon dioxide and release oxygen which is the source of fresh air for astronauts.
Furthermore, the author implies that since astronauts are in zero gravity for a long period of time, it will put their health condition into danger. In contrast, the professor brings up the idea that there are some space stations in the space which have some astronauts as their habitats. They should learn how to manage this situation and do some exercises in order to get ready for that conditions. Also, they have to take some vitamins and minerals like calcium to augment the power of their muscle.
Last but not least, the reading argues that space radiation transmitted from the sun can cause harmful effect for the astronauts since there is no shielding. If they add shielding to the spacecraft, it will be to heavy. Conversely, the professor undermines the theory by proposing that solar radiation does not always dangerous. Just in some active periods, which is occasionally happened, it could be harmful. The professor adds that astronauts can manage it by monitoring the radiation. Also, they can built a small shield area to go there in case of exposing to solar radiation during their trip.
